 A Taliban spokesman said several people had been killed and several others injured in the blast. More than 200 are injured.


The injured have been shifted to hospital with the help of rescue agency ambulance and self help. Taliban officials cordoned off the area. Taliban spokesman and Deputy Information Minister Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the mosque blast in a tweet. A blast at a Shiite mosque in the area has killed and injured several of our compatriots.


Matiullah Rouhani, Kunduz's director of culture and information in the Taliban government, confirmed that the blast was a suicide bombing. According to locals, the blast took place during Friday prayers at the mosque. Eyewitnesses said that we were praying when the blast was heard.

According to the Afghan Broadcasting Corporation, this is the first blast in Kunduz Province since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. Earlier, on October 3, a blast outside a mosque in the Afghan capital, Kabul, killed two people and injured several others. The bomber struck near the entrance to Kabul's Eidgah mosque, where the mother of Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid was holding a condolence meeting.
